The purpose of this competency is to achieve the goals of stakeholder management, i.e. to:
- ensure that the views and attitudes of all stakeholders are understood;
- influence stakeholders to be supportive of the work wherever possible;
- maximise the impact of supportive stakeholders;
- minimise the impact of unsupportive stakeholders.
Performance criteria You must be able to: |
| Multiple projects or programmes may share stakeholders. The co-ordination of stakeholder management across these projects and programmes may be deemed to be covered by P7 but an additional explicit performance criterion may be added if necessary. At portfolio level it may be appropriate to just ‘monitor’ and omit the ‘control’. Similarly, some environments (particularly those that are heavily regulated) may have very specific types of communication that are sufficiently important to constitute additional performance criteria. Techniques for identifying and assessing stakeholders are entirely subjective. It is not the case that there are complex stakeholder analysis techniques for work that has larger numbers of stakeholders or more influential stakeholders. The difference between stakeholder management techniques in simple or complex contexts is more about the effort put into the procedure and the detail in the documentation. |
